- - - - • Institutional discrimination means that the systems, processes or the culture of an organisation result in discrimination whether or not individuals within the organisation intend to discriminate.
      - Public bodies The E A protects us all from discrimination by the government, local authorities and other public bodies including the NHS, the police, local authorities, gov.t dept.s and prisons.
        The Human Rights Act sets out the rights and freedoms for individuals and the obligations of public bodies.
        
        Discrimination does not have to be about the intention of the person acting or about prejudice. It can be about the impact of their action. Their intentions might have been neutral or positive but if the result is that the other person is treated less favourably, it may be discrimination
      - • Unlawful discrimination The Equality Act 2010 protects people from discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and pregnancy and maternity.
  - - - Harassment is unwanted behaviour related to a protected characteristic that violates the person’s dignity/hostile environment.
        An employer or service provider can be liable for not taking all reasonable steps to prevent harassment.
      - Indirect discrimination is a more subtle type of discrimination where a policy or practice that applies to everyone actually has a worse effect on some people than others, because of age or sex for example.
      - Victimisation is also a form of discrimination. It involves being treated unfairly because you stood up for your or someone else’s rights by complaining about discrimination:
      - Hate crime & hate incidents
        violence or host directed at people cos of who they are/who someone thinks they are.
        The most common types of hate covered by the criminal & civil law involve race, religions, disability, sexuality and gender assignment.
        Other groups such as homeless people can also be targeted -although they are not covered by specific law; the police can still act .
      - Gender violence and abuse covers different types of violence & abuse. It incs domestic violence, harassment & stalking, rape & sex assault, FGM, forced marriage, honour abuse & trafficking.
      - Domestic violence is any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members. This can be, but is not limited to, psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional abuse.
