Film Idea One - Key Story Elements
Theme
Monster
The use of a super natural like creature that is stalking the explorers enables me to use this theme.
Adventure
The characters will be exploring an unknown location creating an adventure for themselves.
Buddy Stories
If there are two characters the use of a friendship between the pair as they explore the location will be ever present.
Vengeance
The spirit / creature is looking for vengeance on anyone who tries to access its living space.
Fate
The explorer(s) may get out alive? or will they be captured and never seen again?
Tone
Many tones can be used throughout but the major three include...
Tension
The audience won't know what to expect is going to happen to the character(s)
Suspense
Keeps the audience engaged throughout as they won't know what will happen but want to see the story unfold.
Serious
This tone is to try and connote to the audience a realistic aspect that the scenario is not suppose to seem funny. This could be shown through emotions, expressions and dialogue.
Genre
Horror
Aims to get an unpleasant reaction from the audience through fear.
Super Natural Horror
Horror Genre based around the unknown and spirits. This tends to include forms of Aliens and Demons.
Action Horror
Based around an evil force and some form of confrontation such as fights or a chase. Typically includes Demons.
Plot
Synopsis
James Sullivan and close friend Dexter Williams, are two young teenagers with an urge to break laws and live life they shouldn’t. Whilst driving around, the two stumble upon an abandoned building. None the wiser the pair enter without any hesitation, yet little do they know the building is guarded by a force much more powerful than mankind itself.
Upon entering protagonist James decides that he wants to record himself and best friend Dexter exploring the facilities. His phone begins to freeze and restart, this isn’t a fault of the device but instead a mistake of the pair entering the premises.
The story begins to unravel and the friends understand there is something not right about the events occurring. They begin to find a way out but it is too late…
Beginning - The Set up - The Warning - The Point of No Return - The Major Set Back - The Climax - The Resolution.
Characters
Protagonist
The main character will be the explorer who ventures into the location. Depending on the setting we get they may be the only character involved. This forms a film style like The Blair Witch Project.
Side Kick
Depending on location, a second character may be used as the camera man / woman . They will be mainly heard rather than seen and will play the role of pressuring the protagonist into doing things such as exploring deeper into a location.
Villain
The demon / spirit will not be seen by the audience but its presence being there is shown through music and special effects
Locations
Abandoned Building
Abandoned Building
- Is the primary choice for location. I feel this setting will be more realistic as people who believe in spirits and haunted buildings will be my target audience. The use of an unknown location also prevents the audience from understanding where the characters are and going towards building up more suspense and tension.
Car Park
Car Park
- Is the second location idea depending on the accessibility of an abandoned building. The car park will be used on a night time so the setting is dark. It will be empty and have access to a stair case that is run down and not clean.
