Embryogenesis
Neurulation
Tubes form, making a neurula
-
-
-
Placenta
materno-foetal organ:
- nutrition, gas exchange, waste removal, haematopoietic cells, endocrine and immune support
Development
- Day 10: Lacunae in syncitiotrophoblast: filled with maternal blood
- Day 13: Primitive utero-placental circulatory system formed: cytotrophoblast cells grow into lacunae: primary chorionic villi
- Day 15:Secondary chorionic villi
-
Blastocyst
- Inner cell mass: pluripotent
2nd week: differentiation
Epiblast & Hypoblast
- BI-LAMINAR DISC
- (E and H press)
Disc splits, Two new cavities:
- Primitive yolk sac
- Amniotic cavity
(eventually surrounds foetus)
- Epiblast side
Making tubes:
- Gastrulation :three germ layers form (W3)
- Primitive streak
- Notochord
Epidermis, hair, nails, brain, spinal cord and PNS
Cut through epiblast (caudal to rostral): midline:
- first layer: deepest (endoderm) etc
Directly beneath primitive streak: thin rod of cells: notochord: Major axis of body, inter-vertebral discs
Epithelial digestive tract, stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, bladder and lung
Muscle, bone, connective tissue, notocord, kidney, gonads and CS
Regulation:
- FGF8 secretd by node nodal : maintains primitive streak
- BMP4: ventrilisation mesoderm
