Technology Standards for Education
ISTE Standards for Students
Empowered Learner:
Students will learn to be competent learners who strive for personal goals and understand the fundamental concepts of emerging technologies
The use of technology will help students be confident and competent learners with a base of understanding in all subjects, and these technology skills will guide them to develop personal goals for themselves that they can obtain due to there array of skills. Both points focus on how technology can be beneficial in all kinds of learning across a wide range of disciplines, empowering students to develop of learning pattern that helps them throughout their lives
Global Collaborator:
Students will use digital tools to open up their world to a side of collaboration and communication over a wide geographical scope pushing them towards a common goal with others
These points are connected because they both describe how students will use technology for a specific purpose to help aid in collaboration and communication, whether thats inside or outside of the class room or near or far on the geographical scope
Innovative Designer:
Students will explore their innovative side and learn design processes, increasing their ability to work with open-ended problems
"Digital Citizen" B)
Students will understand to use digital devices respectfully and safely in a way that gives them and others the opportunity to learn
"Knowledge Constructer" A)
Students will expand into the world outside the class room and analyze global problems and different ways to solve them
Students are learning important skills that can be taken outside the classroom, and with the use of technology can work to investigate and solve bigger problems than just math equations. Both points focus on problem solving and power that can be brought with these skills.
ISTE Standards for Teachers
"Facilitate and Inspire Student
Learning Creatively" A)
Be a role model for students while encouraging them to be authentic and creative thinkers to advance learning
These points are similar because when students have teachers who pose as positive role models and constantly encourage them to be themselves and strive for their goals, it helps empowered the students, and lets them be confident in their ability to learn ( in terms of using new technologies in this case)
"Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and
Assessments" D)
Teachers are aware of the ways in which their students learn best and design and develop new ways, digitally, for students to succeed
Promote and Model Digital Age
Work and Learning Experiences and Assessments:
Teachers have current knowledge about technology and are able use it in their classroom to engage students in the technology as well
Teachers are bringing together their knowledge surrounding technologies that is relevant and best fitting for their students, the teachers are able to successfully engage students in this technology and its provides and environment for student success. Both points focus on using technology to enhance education and the need for teachers to be aware of the new emerging technologies
Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
:
Teachers are leaders who strive to use technology to improve student learning and foster an environment where technology plays a role in decision making
These points are connected because Teachers are apply technology into the classroom to engage in students professional growth as everyday learners and improve their knowledge by using technology to broaden concepts beyond the classroom
"Promote and Model Digital Age Learning" D)
Teachers are responsible to use digital age communication tools to enhance culture and global awareness in ethical ways
Both students and teachers are being exposed to technology that allows for teamwork, collaboration, and communication, which opens up many opportunities for students to enhance their awareness and gain knowledge globally and culturally. Both points focus on the gained collaboration skills through the use of technology

Policy Direction 2 (Outcome F):
To advance innovation in education that is relevant to students needs and best fitting for their age to support an appropriate learning environment
Policy Direction 3: Professional Learning:
Teachers, Administration and other Educational professionals possess the ability to use technology effectively and efficiently to make an impact in the classroom
The wide base of educators have the ability to engage in and identify the different learning strategies and uniqueness of their students and are able to join that together with the appropriate technology. Both points focus on the idea that the use of technology in the classroom in meaningful ways requires so much more than awareness solely around tech, but requires teacher to understand the needs and abilities of their students
Policy Direction 5 (Action B):
Provide access to devices that are reliable and worth-while to the classroom in order to enhance teaching and student learning
These points are connected because teachers are expected to have the knowledge associated with technology as well as the responsibility to make sure the devices they are choosing to have in the classroom are worthwhile and acceptable, which will help with student learning

There are clear, present and up-to-date policies and procedures that will guide proper use of technology in educational aspects

These points are connected because they are both expectations that students will use technology to succeed outside of school context, and they will develop the ability to be innovative and broaden their understanding of the world and the many ways that they can handle situations open-endedly, as it applies to themselves and their future

These points are similar in the fact that students will understand the appropriate uses of technology in the class room, and will use technology to enhance their learning, and by doing so providing a safe environoment for learning to take place
