why do we need elections
voters make choice 1) of who will make laws for them. 2)of who will form a govt. and take major decisions. 3)of the parties whose policies will gude the govt. in law making.

Election system
electoral constituencies
- death or resignation of a member is held in it's by-election. 2. the country is divided in different areas for electoral purposes called constituencies. 3. Lok Sabha has 543 constituencies and the representatives become MP. 4. Every vote should have 1 value and the constituencies have rough equal population within. 5. Constituencies are divided into wards for electing members and is counte as seats.
Reserved constituencies
- Constituencies for SC, ST, women for backward representation. 2. There are panchayats, municipalities, corporations now reserved for OBCs. 3. 1/3rd of local seats reserve for women, Lok Sabha = 84 SC and 47ST.
Voters list
- List of voters is called electoral roll, 2. criminals and mentals can be denied the right on rare situations, 3. EPIC is given to voters so someone can't vote for others. Identity proofs are also necessary for voting.
Nomination of candidates
- Min. age is 25 yrs and political parties nominate candidates who get party symbol and support(party ticket is party nomination). 2. He fills a nomination form and gives some money as security deposit. 3. Recent rule from SC states to make a legal declaration and full details 1) Criminal cases pending against the candidate. 2)Details of assets and liabilities of his/her families. 3)edu. qualification. This info is done publicly and voters vote them on this basis.
Election campaign
1) It's a free and open discussion about about who is a better representative, which party will make a better govt. /policy happens in an electionm campaign. 2)Campaign takes place in 2 week period between announcement. But parties start before months. 3)No parties or candidates bribe or threaten voters, appeal in the name of caste and religion, use govt. resources for election campaign or spend rs. 25 lakh+ for lok sabha election and 10 lakh+ for assembly election in a constituency. Polling and counting of votes is the final step.According to model of code of conduct nobody can use piligrimages as election propaganda or use govt. vehicles, aircrafts or officials for elecions.
