8th Grade Pre-Algebra Class
Standards to be met
large amount of curriculum to teach in a small amount of time
Students are able to solve word problems when guided on the steps to take to solve them. When a student is presented with a problem that requires numerous steps or higher order thinking skill, the student gives up before even attempting the problem.
Students frequently ask the teacher for direction on word problems before attempting the problem themselves even though they have successfully learned the necessary skills to solve the problem.
Students are able to solve computational algebra problems if given the steps to follow each type of problem that they may encounter.
Individual white boards
Great tool to receive immediate assessment.
5 Minute Checks
Used at the beginning of each class. Effective review
Good study tool for vocabulary
Hands on Learning
Lack of manipulatives
Time restraints decrease the amount of time available to use manipulatives
lack of contribution by some members
the unmotivated students tend to sit back while the motivated students work towards solving the problem and completing the task
not staying on task
