Beyond the Hiring Basics: DetailsYou Need to Know
Recruiting:
Broadening pool of candidates:
Look to both active and passive candidates. Active: those who are actively posting. Passive: those who have not thought of leaving their job. Post on websites candidates will often visit.
Post on best websites. Do not just post on Monster.com/hotjobs.com. Often does not even bring in candidates.
Market the job to the small pool of skilled potential employees. Do this by comparing costs of living in your area, etc.
Use recruiting software.
Interviewing:
Use case interviewing for two reasons.
Helps candidates gain a better understanding of the job.
Gets a scope of the real life situations the potential employees will be faced with.
Tests for a variety of skills.
Evaluate candidates based on their interests. Candidates that have an enjoyment of the job will perform better, stay longer.
Evaluating:
Hiring to be culturally fit. A fit in the organization allows for a smoother transfer.
Psychological tests can be used, but only with care.
Use a professional recruiter , or a 'matchmaker'. Common now
Do not do this for a low level position, or if it is a small applicant pool.

Online recruiting is fast and inexpensive. But beware, and follow some of the following tips.
