ISTE Standards for Teachers 2008
Facilitation of student learning and creativity
Student learning and understanding of technological competencies are positioned at the forefront
: Teachers will use their technological knowledge to foster student creativity and position learning in the position of the student.
Use technology functionally
Students will learn functional and productive technological applications from the use of educational technology
: Teachers provide and design digital learning opportunities and experiences to promote the student use of technological tools for functionality.
Ability to model digital skills in society
Ability to use technological skills and knowledge outside of the classroom
: Teachers are expected to be able to take their technological skills to use in general society through interactions with parents and students.
Model digital citizenship
Both teachers and students must be cognizant of the issues associated with using educational technology and use technology ethically, responsibly and safely
: Teachers are able to understand the global issues present in the technological world and are able to demonstrate ethical behaviour in their conduct.
Engage in professional growth and leadership
Engaging in professional development allows teachers to effectively integrate educational technology

Digital citizenship:
Students must acknowledge the issues associated with using technology and must be able to demonstrate safe and responsible ways of using technology for learning.
