ISTE Standards for Students (2016)
Empowered Learner is about students taking on an active role in their education by utilizing technology to achieve their specific learning outcomes. Students will set goals for themselves and use technology to achieve those goals while reflecting on the entire process.
Digital Citizen is about students understanding how to communicate and thrive safely in their increasingly digitized world. Students know their legal responsibilities and rules to navigate the digital world in a safe and respectful manner.
Knowledge Constructor is about students learning to gather the resources from the digital world to create meaningful connections to the real world and to specific learning outcomes. It is exploring the variety of tools available online to determine credible sources of information.
Innovative Designer is about students solving complex problems by utilizing technology in a creative manner. It is having the determination to pursue open-ended problems yet still follow through with solution processes.
Computational Thinker is about using technology to test solutions to complex problems. It is collecting data from various locations on the internet and applying technology to analyze it.
Creative Communicator is about students' ability to communicate to others effectively that includes choosing the most appropriate online platform.It is about creating visual representations of ideas using technology.
Global Collaborator is about learning how to collaborate effectively within groups by utilizing technological advances in online communication.
ISTE Standards for Teachers
Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments is about teachers being able to design assessments for their students that reflect the ISTE Standards. It is about creating a technology-rich environment and encouraging students to become active participants in their learning processes.
Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity is about teachers using not only their expertise around their subject, but utilizing technology to help them communicate information to the students in a way that optimizes their learning. It is about getting the students to solve real-world problems with technology and inspiring them to think critically and innovatively.
Model Digital Age Learning and Work is about the teacher exhibiting the necessary knowledge and expertise in technology that is required in our increasingly digitized world. It is about being that positive role model for students in this way to encourage them that they can use technology in ways that will hugely benefit them in their future.
Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility is about teachers understanding the importance of technology, specifically, able to model safe and respectful behavior when using technology to encourage students to do the same. It is about ensuring that all students have equitable access to technology tools in the classroom and encouraging positive social interactions through online platforms.
Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership is about teachers being continual learners in the field of technology advancements and keeping up to date with current research. It is about being a leader of technology in the classroom and always striving to incorporate it into lesson plans where applicable and helpful to student learning.
Learning and Technology Policy Framework
Student-Centered Learning is about using technology in a way that centers learning around the student to give them the best and most efficient education in their highly digitized world. Students will learn how to communicate with others and solve complex problems through technology tools.
Professional Learning is about teacher, education professionals and administration keep themselves up to date on how to implement technology within the school environment as they realize in that doing so, they will benefit the students.
Leadership is about having leaders that will encourage the adoption of technology in the school that will promote student-centered learning. School Authorities and the Ministry of Education provide all tools to help schools to implement technology in appropriate ways to facilitate student learning.
Access, Infrastructure, and Digital Learning Environments is about all schools and students having the resources and infrastructure available to facilitate the best online learning environment.
Research and Innovation is about teachers, education professionals and administrators being highly proficient in the world of technology enabling them to come up with innovative advancements in education. They will take an active role in applying and sharing their research.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Foundational Operations, Knowledge, Concepts is about students understanding the digital nature of their world and how to navigate it appropriately, responsibly and ethically. It is about applying technology to all aspects of their life where it can help them reach their goals.
Processes for Productivity is about students being comfortable communicating through technology, using different technology forms to organize, interpret, and make sense of data.
Communicating, Inquiring, Decision-Making and Problem Solving is about students understanding how to communicate effectively using various digital tools. It is about inquiring about differing perspectives and information found online to make appropriate inferences from data.
