Areas of Knowledge
Knowledge Framework :red_flag:
-Knowledge is a kind of map
-Disciplines and AOKs are rather like cultures

Scope/ Applications

Scope
Map 📌➡️ knowledge maps and their relationships to various aspects of the world change as time goes on
Knowledge maps are multiplying and fragmenting (Konrad Lorenz)-> As knowledge expands, students must focus on ever more detailed maps of ever smaller territories
Knowledge maps could be joined up to form one big one -> consilence :warning: (Ed Wilson R) -> The disciplines would merge into one massive interlocking

Concepts/Language 🗣
Snow -> apparent antagonism betweeb this two cultures as a major ´hidrance` to the application of knoeldege to pressing global problems
Cultural metaphor-> how disciplines develop and mature,
Gives attention to the central concepts named and shared through language, that chracterize the knowledge in each area and provide buildings blocks through
Source (the concept in a metaphor has to travel from a context in which it is easy to understand )More concrete, better understood -> Target (to one in which illumination is required) More abstract less well undestood
The overlap between the source and target -> Ground.
And the areas where metaphor is not a perfect fit between them->Tension
Historical Development
Highlights the development of the area of knowledge around the world and across time -> human construction
Normal sciences (work within a set of shared beliefs, assumptions)
Methodology🔧
It means creating, exchanging and evaluating knowledge .
-
Values
There is a need for some common values concerning treatment of knowledge and parctices within the community.
