Rothwell, Sterns, et al. (2008): General Considerations
Declines in workplace functioning are mediated by engagement in training programs, physical fitness, and perceived level of support and challenge by their work
Learning corresponds to acquiring new information while memory relates to the retaining and recollection of learned information
The work organization is the most frequent provider of education and training programs for MAA and OA
With the rapid rate of technological advancement and the resulting alterations in the work environment, new skill acquisition and skill updating is now a necessity for all age groups, not just those that are long separated from their initial training and education programs
Training OA

Training Protocol Steps
-
ADDIE Model
Analyze: Identify the characteristics of the worker base and task to be completed. For OA, this may entail an analysis of the typical status the OA group of the workforce (e.g. average SES and access to healthcare), and include factors such as normative declines in perceptual and cognitive abilities as well as typical social structure.
-
Develop: Applies design principles and involves the creat of materials or acquisition of existing materials. These materials must be sensitive to declines in cognitive and perceptual abilities as well as familiarity with training modality (e.g. e-training, active learning)
Implement: Represents the delivery or facilitation of instructions. OA may prefer to participate in group sessions with individuals of their own age to avoid stigma.
Evaluate: Identify successes and failures of implemented training design and alter existing protocols to improve subsequent implementations if necessary.
