Step 2 : union commitment
Union commitment is defined as a member’s identification with and involvement in a particular union
Step 3: representation election
Prior to the election, the appropriate bargaining unit is where the eligible employees are made to select a single union to represent and bargain for them
Step 1: organising a campaign
gain attention for the cause and to persuade other employees to support the formation of the union
Step 4: Application for union
The Trade unions act states that any person aged 16 and above and is hired under a contract of service may join a union. There must be at least 7 members in order to register the trade union

Step 6: confirmation and certification of union
After registration of the trade union and approval of the registrar, it should apply to registered under the trade unions act within 1 month
Step 7: Monitor the Union
The registrar may call the trade union to gather more information for the purpose of satisfying himself' If the trade union does not comply with regulations, it may result in the trade union having to cancel their registration
Step 8: Collective Bargaining
Collective bargaining is the process whereby a group of employees and employers negotiate about salaries, working conditions, benefits and other aspects of workers’ compensations.

general union
General unions represents workers from all industries and companies, rather than just one organisation or a particular sector, as in a craft union or industrial union
craft union
A craft union represents workers from the same industry and focuses on a particular craft or trade by skill. Example of this is Singapore Maritime Officers' Union.
independent union
Independent unions are unions that represents employees in one plant or company that is not influenced by the employer.
industrial union
An industrial union represents all workers from the same industry regardless of skill or craft, this results in all workers in the industry being in the same union which gives more collective power.
