Assumptions
How do you prepare?
How on earth am I going to cope?
How am I going to find the time?
Studying feels like a full time load even though I am studying part time.
I had now assumptions
How on earth am I going to study full time, achieve the grades I need to achieve, get a job when I finish and balance that all together?
Other students will think I have a sense of entitlement
Experiences
You just have to hold it together for the semester
People think I will use my kids as a crutch. We don't use them as a bargaining chip
No sense of entitlement. We don't feel like anybody owes us anything.
Would be nice to have a network of parents
Exchange of information
Knowledge exchange
Having Kids
Has widened the gap
Less to relate to with other students
Motivations seem different
more likely to ask questions and be involved with the process
want more money, better education and to show our kids the value of education.
Just can't fit in a lecture- email the tutor and they are usually ok with this.
Didn't know about the daycare
When Lecturers knew of my situation they are very supportive
Everyone is approachable
Understand the needs of the students
Everyone deals with the experience in their own way
Heavily structured home and study life
Because working towards studying is not that hard
Get a good routine going
It would be nice to have a parents group on campus
Cannot afford to be sick- ever
Lots of compromising
but you have to look at the bigger picture
Advice/Support
It is OK to tell your lecturers about your situation, most are sympathetic
You just have to hold it together for the semester, that's all.
Didn't feel like I needed any
used to doing things myself
Just do it- because it needs to be done
Be organised and structured
Because I travel a fair way, my travel time is my time to read and study etc.

for parents, there are really no suitable services applicable
