CANDLE
Primary Industry Jobs (raw materials)
Paraffin Wax
Deprived from petroleum, coal or oil shade
Taken from crude oil
Crude oil is extracted from the Earth by drilling wells into an underground reservoir.
Extraction Process
Distillation
The action of purifying a liquid by a process of heating and cooling.
Deasphaliting
A process in which the asphalt content of crude oil (similar materials) is removed or reduced
Solvent Extraction
A method to separate compounds based on their relative solubilities in two different immiscible liquids, usually water and an organic solvent.
Dewaxing
Remove wax from; specifically : to remove paraffin wax from (oil) usually by chilling, pressing, or treating with a solvent.
Final Oil Base
Transported in bags, barrels and cases.
Transported using boat, train and truck
Beeswax
Made from honey
Bees collect nectar from plants and flowers.
As they create honey, they eat it as well.
Eating this honey creates wax.
Chewing wax with honey create combs.
When beekeepers collect honey, they collect combs as well.
These combs contain beeswax.
Honey combs are filtered till only the beeswax is left
Wick
Made from cotton
Cotton farm
Cotton seeds
Machine harvest cotton bails
Filter out seeds
Machines turn it in strings
Material is braided so it burns in one direction
Secondary Industry Jobs
Making the wick
Cotton wicks are braided and treated with chemicals so that they bend at a 90 degree angle when burning.
Angle causes the wick to shorten naturally
If wick isn't treated, it can burn too quickly and go out or burn to slowly, which can be dangerous.
Preparing the wax base
Wax is melted into a clear, near-liquid state in huge metal kettles.
Wax is carefully filtered to remove impurities.
Desired scents and dyes are now added.
Molding the Candle
Continuous molding machines are used, ranging from 50-500 per load.
Wick is pulled through tip of the mold.
Wax is cooled slightly above melting point and poured into molding table above mold.
After wax is poured, cold water is poured around mold to speed up the cooling process.
Once solid, the candle is pulled out and the wick is snipped.
The process is begins again to get the desired candle shape, the excess wax is re-used.

Candle's are sent to an automated packaging machine
