fallacies and arguments
-
Arguments
deductive
valid =
--> if follows premise and is true conclusion
--> so impossible for it to be wrong when it does
-
-
-
Inductive
-
weak inductive argument =
conclusion unlikely when followed from premise (even if premise claims conclusion to be true!)
cogent=
--> argument must be strong
--> all premises are true!
--> premises must give enough evidence/ support (meet total evidence requirement!)
-->If the premises of an argument are rationally acceptable and are ordered so as to provide rational support for the conclusion, the argument is cogent.
uncogent=
--> if one of these above are not meet!
--> argument is weak
--> has one or more false premises
--> does not give enough evidence to support conclusion / does not meet the total evidence required!
