Judgemental
She rejects Mr. Collins on the basis of his intellect and is judgemental of Miss Charlotte's acceptance of him. Her immediate reaction is one of reproach. " My dear Charlotte, impossible! There is irony in this character trait as the plot relies on her rejection of Darcy for his prejudice however she sees her own prejudice by the end of the novel. ' She had been blind, partial, prejudiced and absurd" . The abundance of adjectives demonstrates her shift in perspective.
Judgemental traits which manifest as prejudice are a key theme throughout the novel. The hierarchy between classes was based on such judgments. As a realist novel, Austen depicts the trivial nature of conversations between 19th-century women who were not allowed to work. Judgemental attitudes had become their nature. Elizabeth's ability to change and reflect demonstrates her move forward away from 19th-century values.
