OF MICE AND MEN
Plot
Great Depression
-
All over the world, but started in The United States
Lennie is accused of raping a woman as he is obseddes with stroking soft things, George and Lennie escapes from their home town to find work
When they arrive at the ranch, George explains to the boss that Lennie was "kicked in the head by a horse"
Throughoutly in the film, George continuouesly tells Lennie about their American dream, where they will buy a farm. At the farm, Lennie will take care of/pet the rabbits
At the ranch, they meet Curley (son of the boss) and his wife. She usually walks around on the ranch and want to get attention from the workers
Early in the film, Lennie is caught keeping a mouse that he killed by stroking it too hard, and George promises him that he will get him a puppy
Accidentally, Lennie kills his puppy he recieved from the ranch. Curley's wife appears and tries to comfort him. At the same time, she tells him about her dream of becoming a movie star (that was crushed) and she lets him stroke her hair. He starts to lose his control, and suddenly he breaks her neck
Lennie runs away and George finds him. Curley is after Lennie, wanting to kill him. As they sit by the water, George repeats their American dream. George chooses to shoot Lennie instead of Curley doing it, as he wants him to feel less pain and kill him while he is feeling happy

Reflection
When George tells the leader of the ranch that Lennie was "kicked by a horse", he probably does it because in the 1930s, people were not used to mentally disabled people. Throughoutly in the film, people say to Lennie "you are nuts". This explains the lack of knowledge on mentally disabled people they had
Lennie walks into Crooks room as he is covering himself with a scent. He explains to Lennie that he is black, and other workers tell him that he stinks. Obviously, his skincolor does not affect what he smells like. But racism has been in America for decades, and also happened to be at the ranch
