Kiosk Analysis
Form
The theme of the kiosk should follow the color scheme of the flag (red and white) but should have additional colors to make it more appealing, such as black, blue and grey.
The appeal of the kiosk should be clean looking, in the sense that it should not be made up of logos and writing. It should have only colors on the main part of the kiosk.
The kiosk should clearly have the Bahrain flag on it, in a place where it would be visible from afar.
Another important aspect of the kiosk would be the font used on the screen to display the information (where appropriate). The font should be smart looking and be easy to read. Additionally it should be possible to change the size of the font in order to make it easier for elderly people to read it,
Function
The kiosk should be able to give information about any event or any touristic attraction in Bahrain. Additionally, all the information it presents should be updated automatically with the use of an internet connection, where the mounted computer will be able to save all the new information and display that instead.
The kiosk should allow payment by the means of NFC via mobile or via credit cards that contain a chip to allow touch payment.
The kiosk should be able to accommodate two people to use the interface, such as having two screens
-
User Requirements
Each screen will be touch screen and it will be around 17 inch wide, so that it would be easy to navigate and more information could be displayed at once. There will be a virtual keyboard on the screen when needed.
Each screen will be fixed onto the kiosk, but it is possible to change the angle of view, making it easier to read for taller or shorter people.
The kiosk is aimed at tourists of all ages and all nationalities. It could be used by people who live in Bahrain as well. The kiosk can be used by anyone.
Performance Requirements
The kiosk will have a built in generator that will allow it to be powered for 15 hours. This will be in the cases in where the kiosk has to stay in an area for a shorter period of time. However the kiosk will have solar panels, which will recharge the battery and make it last longer. Additionally, it will can have a continues power supply when plugged in a wall socket.
The kiosk should have an internet connection at all times, preferably via a 4G network but it will still have the option to connect via an ethernet cable. When not possible however, the system should have a backed up version of all the information so that the users could still see the information but will not be able to buy any thickets as that would require the internet connection.
The kiosk should not be affected by long time exposure to the sun, as it will use solar panels, so it is ideal for the kiosk to sit outside in the sun. The kiosk should also be water resistant. This will be essential for when rain will come, although not very often, it can still avoid the loss of several units.
Materials and Components
The best material to be used for the exterior of the kiosk is aluminium as it doesn't corrode and it has a good strength to weight ratio, which is ideal for this time of product.
There will be multiple PC systems in order to work each individual screen. The PC systems will be connected to a small server that will hold all the information if the internet connection fails. In this way, all screens will display the same information.
-
Safety
With all the features that adjust different components of the kiosk, any strain or aches caused by extended usage should be minimized
No wires or other electronic components should be out of the body of the kiosk with the exception of the screens, and any power or internet cables.
Size
Ergonomic and anthropometric features: Each screen will be able to rotate on the horizontal axes, which means the angle of view can be changed. It could also be raised or lowered.
Sustainability
The materials used, should be as recyclable as possible. One example would be the aluminum that is going to be used for the exterior of the kiosk.
