Information Kiosk
Form
The colours of the kiosk could be reflective of the country's flag, i.e. red and white.
The kiosk's theme should revolve around the island's tourism. For that reason, I can integrate various images and designs that are related to this theme.
Since this kiosk is a long term serving one, it is important that a modern styled font is used on the exterior as well as in the computer interface. On top of that, the text should be large and clear to allow people to read the display from a distance. Additionally this will be beneficial to people with bad eye-sight.
Function
The fundamental purpose of this electronic kiosk is to provide information regarding touristic sites and their locations. However, considering the ability to program the computer within the kiosk, it means the function of this kiosk can be altered or even enhanced by integrating new features.
Another more indirect function of the kiosk, is to essentially promote the various sites by providing descriptions regarding why someone should visit and what makes the site so special.
User Requirements
The target audience of the kiosk, is not constrictive, in the sense that it is open to use for all ages.
In order to allow for this broad sized target audience to efficiently use the kiosk, I will integrate a touch screen. This is ideal, as it is a simple manner in which the information can be accessed.
The size of the touch screen should be large enough to allow for easy use and in order to appear modern as well as attractive to onlookers.
Performance Requirements
Considering the kiosk's long term purpose, it is vital to ensure that it is durable. This specification point can be met, by choosing to integrate a hard wearing material like steel into the the kiosk's structure.
In order to run this kiosk, it must be connected to a power socket within the mall. This can easily be set up at numerous locations within the mall.
The kiosk should be connected to the internet at all times. Not only will this make certain information more accessible to the user, but it will also mean that various updates can be made more easily. This is beneficial as it will prevent the kiosk from being outdated.
Size
In terms of ergonomics, the kiosk should possess a sense of practicality. Perhaps this can be achieved by integrating simple shapes like a rectangular base with the touch screen attached on top.
Considering the fact that the kiosk is free standing, it is important that the touch screen is positioned at a height around eye level/below, i.e 150cm high.
Materials & Components
The kiosk should be made of a range of durable materials to ensure it lasts long, i.e a steel base.
The kiosk should consist of an inbuilt computer program with a large touch screen display. This will appear more attractive and user friendly than alternative options such as having a laptop on a counter top as an example.
Safety
One main precaution that must be taken is to integrate a wide base that can be pinned down to the floor. This is vital to prevent the kiosk from toppling over onto the user .

Sustainability
The main environmental benefit of this kiosk, is the fact that it can be used for multiple purposes following it's use in the field of tourism. For example, it's computer can be programmed to provide information for the mall and it's shops.
The materials such as the steel and gorilla glass are both recyclable. This is beneficial as it means finite resources are conserved. Furthermore, it means less energy is used which means less pollution is created from the burning of fossil fuels.
