Design brief
I am going to design and manufacture a barbecue that can be mounted on a tow hitch of a pickup truck for my dad, so after his clients have done the extreme sports he can offer them some hot food. I will need to consider the following:
in the back of my dad’s pickup there is not a lot of space because of all the other equipment
it needs to be able to lock in place so when he is driving home or to the next location he does have to wait for the ashes to cool down or take the risk of putting it next to some expensive equipment.
its need to be strong enough that it can just have the tow hitch as support so it does not fall off after time.
its need to be big enough so it can cook food for up to 10 people at one time.
Materials
Wood
This would not work for the main part of the barbecue as wood can be set on fire. But wood could be used for some small parts of the barbecue.
Plastics
-
Thermo setting
would not use this in contact with the heat because it might deform but it would be good as a handle because it would no conduct the heat
-
Metals
Aluminium
light-weight, corrosion resistant, reflectivitiy, ductile, impermeable and odourless and recylable
-
steel
strong, long-lasting, rust resistant, flexible, recyclable, structures can be welded.
-
I think these two would be the best metals for building my product out of as others would be too expensive.
Style
retro
My client loves the theme retro and would love if I could include this style in making this product.
-
-
surf culture
My client likes the idea of surf culture but thinks that because his company does not offer surfing as one of his activities he does not think this would suit his needs.
modern
My client does like the style of modern items but he says that he wants to try and stay away from this style for this product.
cost
Budget
I am going to need to research to find the best place to buy the material I decide to make the product from. Then I will consult my client to see if this budget is suitable. I am hoping to source my materials and recycle much of the materials needed.

Design Task 2
The growth in leisure activities has been reflected in the availability of products to help
with outdoor living. Whether this is camping or simply having a barbeque, the range of
products is enormous. Design and make a product suitable for the “Outdoor Living”
section of a large department store.
grill
-
half and half = half will be griddle and the other half will be grill. This provide space for cooking your meat and toasting your buns.
