in 1848 james marshall was highered to bulid a saw mill
he was looking over the site and saw somthing shiney in the Amarica river and it was gold.
finding gold spreed and within weeks people began comming from milles away.

the goverment was giveing away free land in oregon and the pioneers decided to go west
over 800 pioneers went from missouri to Oregon
first pioneers gatherded up all their things such as chickens cattel and verry few clothes .
children had no toys or books to read thay had to leave them behind
pioneers knew the trip to oregon whould be hard
