Cell Replication and Mitosis/Meiosis
Meiosis
4 Haploid daughter cells
To make gametes (sex cells)
gametes only have 23 chromosomes so there is 46 after it has been fertilized by the sperm (which has 23 chromosomes)
Problems can lead to birth defects
Cytokinesis
Cytoplasm divides (and organelles split up) happens after PMAT
Interphase
DNA copies, cell grows (before TMAT starts)
Anaphase
phase of mitosis when sister chromatids pull apart, phase of meiosis when homologous chromosomes pull apart
pulled apart by spindle fibers which are attached to the centrioles (only found in animal cells)
Prophase *link to other phases (except interphase and cytokinesis) All parts of Mitosis and Meiosis
phase of mitosis when sister chromatids pair up, phase of meiosis when homologous chromosomes pair up
Telophase
final phase of cell division, two nuclei are formed.
Metaphase
phase of mitosis when sister chromatids line up in the middle, phase of meiosis when homologous chromosomes line up in the middle
picture shows the cleavage furrow (only occurs in animals)
Mitosis (sexual or asexual reproduction)

Both involve PMAT
2 diploid daughter cells
To make somatic cells (body cells)
somatic cells have 46 chromosomes
Problems can lead to cancer
