This was made up of 50 chiefs who represented the Nations of the Confederacy
Nations with larger population had more than ones with less
Mohawk had 9
Oneida had 14
Onondaga had 14
Cayuga had 10
Seneca had 8
The Tuscarora were not part of the original 5 nations
The clan mothers could remove chiefs if they were not doing well
Clan mothers always chose the new chiefs

Title usually passed down to female relatives
The Great Law of Peace gave the mothers ownership of their title
They had the responsibility of choosing the chiefs for their individual clans
Today they are respected and are still important
Seventh Generation
The Grand council always had to consider the Seventh Generation
They always thought about how their decisions would result in Seven Generations
It helped them to always choose wisely
They always wanted to make sure the Seventh generation was well protected
Chiefs
The leaders were called the chiefs
The Great Law of Peace said it was their responsibility to be teachers and spiritual guide
They were treated with great respect
They had to remind their people that the Creator wanted them to live together in Peace forever
They had lots of wisdom and many other qualities
They were considered equal to everyone in the society
They were in charge of the Great Law of Peace
