Consumer discretionary is the term given to goods and services that are considered non-essential by consumers, but desirable if their available income is sufficient to purchase them. Consumer discretionary goods include durable goods, apparel, entertainment and leisure, and automobiles

3 Sector Theory
Primary
involves the retrieval and production of raw materials, such as corn, coal, wood and iron. (A coal miner and a fisherman would be workers in the primary sector.)
Secondalry
involves the transformation of raw or intermediate materials into goods e.g. manufacturing steel into cars, or textiles into clothing. (A builder and a dressmaker would be workers in the secondary sector.)
Tertairy
involves the supplying of services to consumers and businesses, such as baby-sitting, cinema and banking. (A shopkeeper and an accountant would be workers in the tertiary sector.)

Durable Goods
Durable goods are consumer goods that have a long life span and are used over time. The life span is typically three years or more. Examples include bicycles and refrigerators.
Non-durable Goods
Nondurable goods are consumed in less than three years and have short life spans. Examples include food and drinks.
