Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge was a 19th century English poet, Literary critic, and philosopher. His other work includes Kubla Khan and the Biographia Literaria. He struggled with crippling anxiety and depression. He was orphaned at the age of 8 after his father died.

He ended up in a dangerous ice field where he shot an albatross.
The Mariner starts telling a story of a disasterous Journey he took when sailing near antarctica.
Three guys are on their way to a wedding. When an old sailor stops one of them at the door.

Pride-- is an important mistake that humans make and we should be humble the face of mother nature.

This story takes place in the industrial revolution.
Part 1
The ship sails from England to the antarctic, becomes stranded in the ice and fog until an albatross shows up and then the ice splits and the ship sails through to the pacific.
Although the bird is playful and friendly to the mariners, and seems to be a good omen, the mariner shots the bird with his crossbow.
The old mariner has some magic power in his eye an it forces the young man to listen.
There is a wedding and an old man stops one of the guests to tell the story of a cursed ship.

Part 2
3.Sea monsters surround the ship. The crew thinks the sea itself is burning blue and green like a witches oils.
4.It seems as if nature itself has turned its back on the sailors. They are dying of a mix of dehydration and the intense heat. The captain is forced to wear the dead albatross around his neck as a badge of shame.
2.The ship is around the equator. The crew is parched and suffering. Its hot and the ship is not moving.
The captain feels guilty about shooting the albatross. While the crew argues whether the albatross was good luck or bad luck.
part 3
The Mariner fears the ship and doubts it will rescue them.
The entire crew dies except the Mariner. every soul whizzed by him like a bolt from his crossbow.
The ship is a rather hellish sight. Its nearly wrecked. Lady luck and death are playing dice. Lady luck wins.
1 It seemed as if time itself stood still while the ship was stuck. A ghost ship appears on the horizon, And it seems as if its coming towards them.
the sailors curse the mariner.
part 4
It seems as if nature itself is against the Mariner. For some reason the dead sailors aren't rotting.
The Mariner was alone, And sea creatures are all around the ships. The Mariner tried to pray but couldn't.
The Mariner Blesses the sea creatures, The albatross falls from his neck, and he can pray again.
1.The Wedding guest fears the Mariner believing him to be a zombie or ghost. The Mariner assures him that he did not die.
The Mariner is dying of thirst and the ship will not move.
part 5
Because the curse is lifted, he sleeps and when he wakes up its raining then the wind is moving and the clouds are flying by showing him glimpses of the stars.
The spirits fly around the boat making sweet sounds, the ship moves on but not from the breeze. the spirit from the land of mist and snow.
Wedding guest burst in and is afraid of the zombie sailors. The mariner reassures him that it was all angels when the sun comes up they all lay down the spirits leave their bodies.
Ship takes off in the mariner falls down and hears 2 voices talking above his head they say he's the one that shot the bird. he's paid for it but he will continue paying.
2.The dead sailors rise up and start to work the ropes the way they had when they were still alive.
Part 6
the breezes start to blow and the Mariner is cheered we have to move forward in our lives despite what has happened in the past.
He realizes that the ship has reached home. he sees the harbor bay lit beautifully by the moon and sees the pilot rowing out to help the ship into the harbor to port. Then angels come out of the bodies of all the dead sailors and wave.
The mariner wakes up and the dead bodies are standing around him staring at him reminding him of his crime and guilt and the moon is glittering in their eyes.
The Mariner is excited because the hermit from the woods who is a holy man is in the boat too and the Mariner thinks he can cleanse his soul.
The angels are observing the ship as it drives the mariner home to england the angels don't know what who or what is making the ship go.
