Plot
Chapter 1: George and Lennie seem to be taking a break to drink water out of a questionable river. Lennie apologizes to George saying he tried to not forget. They are going to work on a ranch in weed because Lennie got them kicked out .It has something to do with Lennie and a girl with a red dress. He has a problem with "petting" and taking things he shouldn't. Lennie gets upset when George said he could be better off without Lennie. Wants the ranch to see Lennie working and remembering the path.George says although life is hard with him, it would not be the same and the best without companionship.Lennie is
Chapter 2: They arrive at the ranch where they are greeted by an old man that says the boss was mad they didn't come last night.The old man says the owner can be mean but very nice and kicks around the stable buck.The boss is curious why George is going to such trouble to stick up for Lennie and asks if he is taking some of his pay. George lies and says he is Lennie's cousin and he got hit in the head as a kid.The boss's son comes in and also questions them. George warns Lennie persistently to stay away from Curley and his wife because they are trouble. Being very shaming towards Curley's wife even though they know little about her. Lennie is desperate for George to ask Slim for one of his pup.
Chapter 3: George tells slim that Lennie and him grew up together in the same place and his Aunt Clara died so he just stuck around. George says it's easy to manipulate Lennie and almost made him drown once.George says Lennie got them kicked out of Weed because he liked a girls RED dress and kept holding on to it. He didn't know what to do and the women wrongly accused him of rape. Carlson is still complaining about the stinky old dog so he convinces Candy to let him shoot the dog. George and Lennie start discussing their dream house that they are looking at and Candy offers $300 if he can join in. Curley is angry and picks a fight with Lennie but he does not fight back. When George tells him to, all the bones in Curleys hand are broken. Curley won't tell on Lennie because the story is embarrassing. George reassures Lennie that the fight was not his fault.
Chapter 4: Lennie finds Crooks alone in his bunk and just wants someone to talk to. He eventually does not and calls Lennie crazy. Crooks starts scaring Lennie about the possibility that George might not come back at some point and what Lennie would do then. Once they start talking about the farm, he says he would like to join in with no pay but takes it back later. Curley's wife comes in again and asks for Curley but admits she just wants someone to talk to. However, she becomes defensive when they attack her then says rude remarks. She leaves the room so she does not get caught.It reveals that everyone is just extremely lonely no matter what race, age, or health status. .
Chapter 5: Lennie is in the barn while everyone else is playing horseshoes. He looks sadly at his dead puppy and blames it for being so fragile as a mouse. Again, he did not mean to harm it but is not mad because George will not let him tend to the rabbits. Curley's wife sees him and approaches. Lennie tells her to go away and that George will yell at him because she is trouble, but she refuses. She goes on about how she doesn't do nothing to anybody and is just lonely and wants someone to talk to. Lennie starts stroking her soft hair like she instructs but does it too hard and ends up snapping her neck. Panicked once again, he flees to his safe spot to hide from the others. Candy sees what happened shortly after and calls for George. He is upset and will let the other guys deal with it. Curley is furious and tells the other guys to get ready to hunt him down and killl him. However, George resists this but is extremely conflicted and follows along.
Chapter 6: Lennie is running through the forest searching for his hiding spot. He sees a rabbit and starts imagining that it is Aunt Clara yelling at Lennie for messing things up again and ruining George's life. He starts hysterically yelling at the "talking" rabbit and saying he will move up in the hills instead. However, George appears and starts telling Lennie that he isnt made and retells the story of their dream house again. Secretly, he steals back the gun and is prepared to shoot lennie himself with a shaky hand. Lennie does not understand what is going on and is also retelling the bed time story. Slowly but surely he pulls the trigger and sits there in shock. The mob of people come over and Slim grabs George out and heads back.
