WIDE AREA NETWORK ( WAN)
WAN use a
communications channel
that combines many types of media such as telephone lines, cables, and radio waves.
It uses long-distance transmission mdia to link computers separated by a few miles or even thousands of miles.

A high speed network that covers a
large geographic area
such as a city, country or the world.
Not owned by any one organization but rather exist under distributed ownership and management over long distances.
The Internet
is the world's
largest
WAN.
METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN)
DEFINITION :red_flag:
A
high speed network
that connects local area networks in a metropolitan area such as a
city or town
and handles the communications activity across that region.
Typically owned and operated by a single entity such as a government body or large corporation
EXAMPLES :star:
i. Branch offices are connected to head offices through MANs
ii. Banks
MAN including one or more LANs, but covers small geographical area than a WAN.
A public high-speed network capable of voice and data transmission within a range of about 50 miles (80 km)
LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN)
DEFINITION :check:
LAN is a network that connects computers & devices in a
limited geographical area
such as in a home

Typically owned, controlled & managed by a
single person or organization
The
simplest
form of LAN is to connect 2 computers together
A network which consists of less than 500n interconnected devices across several buildings is still recognized as a LAN
