, The Battle
and The Franks began the battle in a Phalanx like formation in the shape of a square. For six days no fighting occurred while the Arabs waited for their full strength to arrive as much of the army had been split off into different sections raiding the surrounding regions. The Arab army was also hoping to draw out the Frankish. For seven days there were some minor skirmishes. The Arab army was being outmaneuvered because of the heavily treed areas that the Frankish army were moving in. The trees diluted the cavalry and the Arabs were fighting uphill, therefore it was a decisive victory for the Franks. The Frank forces were more loyal and had heavier army, so they were able to withstand cavalry, which is unusual. The battle was decided when when Frankish scouts began to raid the Arab supply as well as the plunder they had gained. Upon realizing this a large amount of the Arab army pulled away to defend their goods, this soon turned into a full on route and whilst trying to stop his army from retreating 'Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi was slain after being surrounded by Franks. Winter was coming and although the Arabs were situated in an inferior battle position than the Franks, they had to attack since they were not prepared for the seasonal changes.
