(Despite the fact that we live in a society that pushes men and women toward separate, stereotypical gender roles, all people struggle with the same desires and fears. We want to be loved. We want to avoid conflict. We want to be ourselves without being judged or ridiculed. In a way you could think of bronies as a sort of support group for guys that are bucking traditionally assigned gender roles that prescribe emotional neutrality, or worse, negative outbursts as the only acceptable form of masculine emotional outlet. Men can be thoughtful, sensitive, compassionate, creative, and community-oriented just like women, and the brony culture allows them to explore this side of their masculine personality within a supportive and understanding group.
