How did exploration and the columbian exchange reshape the world?

Conquistador: A leader in the spanish conquest of America, Mexico and Peru in the 16th century.

Colombian Exchange: The exchanging / giving of goods/ products back and forth from the old and new world.

Middle Passage: the sea journey between Africa to the West Indies that transported slaves.

Encomieda System: Created by the Spanish to control and regulate American Indian labor and behavior during the colonization of the America's.

The Encomienda System

Original Purpose: Educate the locals and spread Christianity.

Allow Native's to keep their land

Supposed to be paied

Only supposed to stay for 2-3 years then they were done

What actually happened?

Indians where used for cheap labor

Many Spaniard tradesmen who came over for blacksmithing, shipbuilding etc got excited by the profit of the system

So they became Encomenderos

Because of people becoming these "encomenderos" the American Indians suffered. The Indians were forced to do hard labor in order to pay the Encomenderos tribute

The Colombian Exchange

There were many huge downsides to the Colombia Exchange and only a few good thing's to the exchange.

Downsides

Brought many new animals with them on the ships

The cattle and sheep prevented regrowth of the native shrubs and trees

Dominican snakes were drove toward extention

Plant's were infested with fire ants. If you tried to remove the fire ants they would swarm around you and start attacking you

Many diseases were brought over with them such as swine flu

Citrus pest was brought over in 2004

The country's got many new resources and good's that they might have not been able to produce in their certain area

Aztec's and Inca's

The Aztec's and Inca's both were very strong and powerful colonies.

Which is why it is so suprising they got defeated by much smaller armies

So how were the Aztec's and Inca's conqured?

The Aztec's were not immune to the dieases the European's brought over with them, this soon weakend the forces of the Aztec's and allowed the much smaller Spanish forces to conquer them.

The Inca's were not defeated by a disease or conqured to the death but instead they diminished from a suprise attack by the Spanish. They set an open fire to the heart of the Inca empire which killed much of the army. Soon after the men of the Spanish army captured the king Atahualpa and killed him.

Soon after Cortez defeated the Inca's he changed the Inca city from Tenochtitlan to Mexico City
