Bob Geldof (Facts, Opening, Who is he?, Bob started out as the lead singer in the band Boomtown rats. One of their most famous songs was I dont like Mondays. I dont like mondays was about a teenage shooter who didnt want to go to school one monday. She got out of hand and started shooting people at her school. , Later on, Bob Geldof decided to get together with many famous singers at the time. He wanted to create a song to raise money for charity and the famine in Ethiopia. The song was called Band Aid, and it was a Christmas song. You may have heard it before because it is quite famous and is still played a lot today.
In July 1985 Bob Geldof also put together a concert, called Live Aid, again raising money for the famine in Ethiopia. The concert was held live in the USA and London and was seen live on TV by almost 2 billion people. Popular artists of the day performed for free.
All together this raised 30 million pounds, about the same as 150 million NZ dollars in todayś world.
Geldof was also involved in organising the 2005 , Live 8 concerts. This was 11 music concerts organised to raise money and support for the UK Ḿake Poverty History Campaign and the Global Call for Action Against Poverty.
