6th amendment - Rights of Accused in Criminal Prosecutions: Rights to Jury Trial, to Confront Opposing Witnesses and to Counsel
Judicial Review - No law or action can contradict the U.S. Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land.
14th amendment - Protects rights against state infringements, defines citizenship, prohibits states from interfering with privileges and immunities, requires due process and equal protection, punishes states for denying vote, and disqualifies Confederate officials and debts
4th amendment - Search and Seizure
Supremacy clause - lis a clause of the U.S. Constitution which dictates that federal law is the "supreme law of the land".
8th amendment - Protections against Excessive Bail, Cruel and Unusual Punishment
5th amendment - doesn't have to speak for them self unless in front of a Grand Jury. no Double Jeopardy, Self-Incrimination, Due Process
1st amendment - Rights to Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, Petition
9th amendment - Non-Enumerated Rights
Texas vs. Johnson - was a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States that invalidated prohibitions on desecrating the American flag enforced in 48 of the 50 states.
Furman Vs. Georgia - was a criminal case in which the United States Supreme Court struck down all death penalty schemes in the United States in 5-4 decision,
Bethel school district vs. Fraser - Fraser was suspended from school for three days as a result, was prohibited from speaking at his graduation ceremony, and his name was stricken from the ballot used to elect three graduation speakers. Fraser nonetheless was selected by a write-in vote which placed him second overall among the top three finishers, although Bethel High School administrators refused to accept the write-in vote as a valid result, and continued to deny Fraser the opportunity to speak at graduation.
Korematsu v. US - a landmark United States Supreme Court case concerning the constitutionality of Executive Order 9066, which ordered Japanese Americans into internment camps during World War II regardless of citizenship.
New Jersey v. TLO - a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States addressing the constitutionality of a search of a public high school student for contraband after she was caught smoking.
Plessy vs. Ferguson-a landmark constitutional law case of the US Supreme Court. It upheld state racial segregation laws for public facilities under the doctrine of "separate but equal".
Mapp v. Ohio - a landmark case in criminal procedure, in which the United States Supreme Court decided that evidence obtained in violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects against "unreasonable searches and seizures.
In Re Gault- Supreme court decision that held that juveniles accused of crimes in a delinquency proceeding must be afforded many of the same due process rights as adults, such as the right to timely notification of the charges, the right to confront witnesses, the right against self-incrimination, and the right to counsel.
Engle v. Vitale - a landmark United States Supreme Court case that ruled it is unconstitutional for state officials to compose an official school prayer and encourage its recitation in public schools.
Brown vs. Board of Education- as a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional
Hazelwood v. Kuilmeier - a landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United States that held that public school curricular student newspapers that have not been established as forums for student expression
McCulouch vs. Maryland - the Supreme Court reviewed a tax levied by Maryland on the federally incorporated Bank of the United States. The Court found that if a state had the power to tax a federally incorporated institution, then the state effectively had the power to destroy the federal institution, thereby thwarting the intent and purpose of Congress
Marbury vs. madison- the Court formed the basis for the exercise of judicial review in the United States under Article III of the Constitution.
Miranda v. Arizona - a landmark decision of the United States Supreme Court. the Court held that both inculpatory and exculpatory statements made in response to interrogation by a defendant in police custody will be admissible at trial only if the prosecution can show that the defendant was informed of the right to consult with an attorney before and during questioning and of the right against self-incrimination before police questioning, and that the defendant not only understood these rights, but voluntarily waived them.
Gideon v. Wainwright - a landmark case in United States Supreme Court history. In it, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that states are required under the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to provide counsel in criminal cases to represent defendants who are unable to afford to pay their own attorneys.
Roe vs Wade- A landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court on the issue of abortion. It was decided simultaneously with a companion case, Doe v. Bolton. The Court ruled 7–2 that a right to a woman's decision to have an abortion
