Keeps us stuck in the present, which will negatively impact society.
We need to learn from history to realize what mistakes we might be making, but we cannot do this if we cannot even see what was posted this morning.

Deep Work
What I Have Learned
-
We must learn to be okay with boredom, for our minds are dependent on distraction. In order to improve our concentration on the task at hand, we need to wean ourselves off of distractions.
Building rituals into your work ethic and work times enables you to work deeply. Having a constant pattern helps the brain fall into a rhythm that promotes a better, more productive habit for completing work.
-
Deep work is at a disadvantage with companies that are heavily dependent on using technology throughout the work day to get tasks done, communicate with colleagues, or to communicate with clients.
Deep work helps you learn hard things quickly, and helps you produce at an elite level.

Self Assessment
Application

Exercise in class: deciding what categories fit our lives the best and figuring out what tasks and important aspects of each were most important to us. This helped me realize that I have a lot on my plate but with developed skills of deep work, and my already strong work ethic, I am able to tackle each of these "to dos" without a problem. I enjoyed laying out what I had to do on a giant piece of paper. Even though it seemed stressful to see all of my tasks in one place, it felt good to empty my cluttered brain onto the page.

Overall Thoughts
I have a lot going on in my academic, professional, and social life that needs to be organized and scheduled more than I originally thought.
In order to achieve my goals, I must learn how to apply the skills learned from this class, and the Deep Work book. I must work hard in all of my classes and future internships, applying the knowledge from this course to everything.

I am a busy person who needs to dedicate certain hours to deep work and certain hours to relax or do something with friends each day.
If I learn to organize my life a little better, I would be less stressed each day. Since this class, I have been scheduling my tasks and everything in between a lot better than before.

I have learned that keeping relaxing pictures on my desktop or by my workspace promotes a stronger work ethic. I am motivated to get my work done in a timely fashion and to eventually strive to get to the destination pictured.
Relaxing photos are perfect for motivating the practice of deep work. They keep my mind at ease and are something nice to look at while completing sometimes tough work.
