COMMUNITY ECOLOGY
DIVERSITY
communities involve more than one species among which some are highly diverse and some are less
DIVERSITY AND SCALE
whichever aspect of community diversity the scale matters for common observation. larger ares are more diverse than the smaller one. the relationship between area and species richness is called species-area relationship. species abundance distribution is that where each species is plot in equal number.
DIVERSITY AND LATITUDE
diversity also varies with the latitude.the far northern areas have fewer species than in the equator.
PEDATOR-PREY INTERACTIONS

ONE PREDATOR, ONE PREY
one species of prey is attacked by only one species of predator. this model is useful because it help us to understand how we human predators should harvest our various prey.
APPARENT COMPETITION
if the prey species increase the predators also increase. thus an increase in one plant species is associated with a decrease in others, and they appear to be in competition. the plants are not actually competing for and using a resource, this is called apparent competition.

CONCEPTS
community is a group of species that occur together at the same time and place. there is more or less predictable sequence of changes called succession and it occurs in many communities.
