GLUCONEOGENESIS

the three diff bypass enzymes are:
1) glucose-6-phosphatase
2) fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase
3) phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) + pyruvate carboxylase

pyruvate is converted to oxaloacetate by PYRUVATE CARBOXYLASE in the mitchondrial matrix BUT oxaloacetate can't freely move out of the membrane, so is converted to malate first by MALATE DEHYDROGENASE, which then converts it back to oxaloacetate once it moves across membrane
things that aren't substrates of glucneo as there is no net carbon gain
- Acetyl CoA
- fatty acids (catabolised to Acetyl CoA) // but glycerol is a substrate
- lysine + leucine
