CAUSES
Heart attacks are caused by the blood supply to the heart being suddenly interrupted. Without this supply, heart muscles may be damaged and begin to die.
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of heart attacks. CHD is a condition in which the coronary arteries (the major blood vessels that supply the heart with blood) get clogged up with deposits of cholesterol. These deposits are called plaques.

TREATMENT
If your symptoms started within the past 12 hours – you'll usually be offered primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
If your symptoms started within the past 12 hours but you can't access PCI quickly – you'll be offered medication to break down blood clots.
If your symptoms started more than 12 hours ago – you may be offered a different procedure, especially if symptoms have improved. The best course of treatment will be decided after an angiogram and may include medication, PCI or bypass surgery.
RECOVERY
to gradually restore your physical fitness so you can resume normal activities (known as cardiac rehabilitation)
