What is employment relations :question:
covers all theoretical and practical aspects of employment relationship both individually and collectively.
includes workplace relations being comprised of an economic and social systems.
This economic and social systems are processes and interactions between people.
acknowledges that there is an imbalance of power between management or employer and the worker.
What are the objectives of workplace relations :question:
Equity
fair employment standards for treatment of workers.
example: justice & nondiscrimination
Efficiency
Market productivity justice
Contracts and transactions that are market-based are seen to be fair because they produce market exchange.
Laissez faire approach
The company can achieve profit maximization if government do not intervene with regulating the workplace's economic and legal polices.
The ability of a company to perform well economically by effectively using scarce resources.
example: productivity, quality, economic prosperity
voice
meaningful input of decisions
example: free speech and industrial democracy (i.e voice)
Why is Public policy focus important in the workplace :question:
because there are issues that could affect levels of productivity and therefore affect public policy to be fulfilled
Some of the issues in relation to workplace are lack in motivation for skilled workers (psychologically), not being productive enough (physically) because there's lack of public policy which enforces health and safety to prevent workers from being harmed.
