DURATION
How LONG information can be stored
ENCODING
In what FORM that information is stored
CAPACITY
How MUCH information can be stored
Coding
This is the format in which the brain can store information.
Information is received from our senses and we translate into a format that our brain can
understand.
This depends on the memory store
Sensory store
The sensory store received information constantly from our five senses.
Most of this receives no attention and remains there for a brief time.
If attention is focused on this information, then it will be transferred to the next store… STM.
If no attention is paid we forget it
Short Term memory
This is a brief holding depot for information.
Information has been moved from Sensory to STM
