Epithelial Tissues
Transitional Epithelium
Thorough Function: Specialized to change in response to increased tension. Forms a barrier that prevents the contents of the urinary tract from diffusing back into the internal environment
Location: Forms the inner lining of the urinary bladder and lines the uterus and part of the urethra.
Description of Appearance: Consists of several layers of cubodial cells. When distended the tissues stretch and relationships among cells change.

Cubodial
Epithelium
Location: Covers the ovaries, lines the kidneys tubles and ducts of certain glands, pancreas, and liver.
-
Function: In the kidneys, the tissue functions in secretion and absorption and in the glands it secretes glandular production
Glandular Epithelium
Location: Usually found within columnar and cubodial epitheliums and one or more constitute a gland. Salivary Glands, Sweat Glands, and Endocrine Glands.
Thorough Function: Composition of cells are specialized to produce and secrete substances into ducts or into body fluids.
-
Columnar
Epithelium
Location: Lines the uterus, and most organs of the digestive tract including the stomach and intestines.
Description of Appearance: elongated, composed of a single layer of cells.
Function: Cilia in women help in moving eggs to the uterus, protects underlying tissue and some secrete digestive fluids and absorb nutrients.
-
Squamous
Epithelium
Location:Located in alveoli in the lungs and within the capillaries. It's also found lining the inside of blood and lymph vessels, covers membrane of body caurities.
Function: It allows easy passage of substances, common with diffusion and filtration.
Description of Appearance: Described as a thin, delicate, broad, consisting of a single layer of thin, flattened blood vessels.
-
Connective Tissues
Dense-Connective Tissue
-
Location: Tendons, Ligaments, and deep layers of the skin
Hyaline Cartilage
Thorough Function: Supports, Protects and Provides Framework
Location: Ends of the bones, nose, rings in the walls of the respiratory passages.
Adipose Tissue
Thorough Function: Protects, Insulates and Stores Fat
Location: Beneath the skin, around the kidneys, behind the eyeballs and on the surface of the heart
-
Elastic Cartilage
Thorough Function: Supports, Protects and Provides Flexible Framework
-
Areolar Tissue
-
Location: Beneath the skin, between muscles and beneath epitheilial tissue.
FibroCartilage
Location: Between body parts of the spinal column, parts of the pelvic girdle and knees.
-
Blood
Thorough Function: Transports substances, helps maintain stable internal environment.
-
Bones
Thorough Function: Support, Protect, Absorb Shock
-
-
Nerves
-
Location: Brain, Spinal Cord, And Peripheral Nerves.
