Receptors
CHOLINERGIC
Its effects- the autonomic nervous system that contracts smooth muscles, dilates blood vessels, increases bodily secretions, and slows the heart rate.
-
Explanation-resembling acetylcholine in pharmacological action and stimulated by or releasing acetylcholine or a related compound.
ANDRENERGIC
Explanation- process accompanied by or requiring the absorption of energy; the products of the process are of greater free energy than the reactants; "photosynthesis is an endergonic process"
Its Effects- Increase blood pressure, constrict blood vessels, open the airway leading to the lungs, increase heart rate and stop bleeding.
Certain areas called adrenergic receptors receive the messages from epinephrine and norepinephrine that tell your body how to respond.
NICOTINIC
Explanation- Pertaining to, or derived from, nicotine used specifically to designate an acid related to pryride obtained by the oxidation of nicotine called nicotinic acid
Its Effects- It can affect the heart, hormones and gastrointestinal system
-
MUSCARINIC
Explanation-related to or imitating the action of muscarine on neurons, especially in blocking cholinergic effects.
Its Effects- decreased heart rate, enhanced urination, stomach acid, and saliva secretion which breaks down food
-
ALPHA
Explanation- one of two or more isomeric compounds.
the first in a series of related items: frequently used in chemistry and physics.
Its Effects- epinephrine acting on cells include glycogenolysis, gluconeogenesis, inhibition of insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in skeletal muscle and vasoconstriction
-
BETA
Explanation-one of the possible positions of an atom or group in a compound and one of two or more isomeric compounds.
Its Effects- are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and weight gain if you are taking medicine for diabetes
