Character Profiles: Part 2
Charlotte Lucas
Charlotte Lucas is Elizabeth's best friend, the Bennets's neighbor, and Sir William's daughter.
She has a very different view on marriage to Elizabeth, preferring to marry someone for financial security over love, hence why she is so quick to marry Mr Collins
Sensible, prefers security over attraction, wants to make sure her life is safe, making love and attraction lesser priority
Lady Catharine De Bourgh
Lady Catharine is a sharp-tongued woman that likes to flaunt her wealth and social status.
She talks down to those in a lower class and shows off her estate and fortune as much as she can, showing herself as shallow and narrow-minded.
She does not want Elizabeth to marry Mr Darcy because she is not upper class like him, but Elizabeth defies her and marries him anyway.
Mr Collins
Proud, awkward, and tiresomely formal, Mr Collins is a somewhat comical character
He marries Charlotte after being rejected by Elizabeth. However, although Mr Collins may be happy with this marriage, Charlotte is his third choice, his first being Jane. This could show that he shares Charlotte's views on marriage, even though Charlotte cannot benefit him financially.
he is widely though of as pompous and laughable by other characters.
He lives on Lady Catharine De Bourgh's estate.
Caroline Bingley
Miss Bingley is a superficial, sly and selfish woman, lying to people for her own gain and when people take a disliking to her. she casts them out, acting unpleasant towards them.
She panders to Mr Darcy in an attempt to win his affections, but he does not choose her over Elizabeth, leading to Miss Bingley turning on Elizabeth and becoming an extremely unlikable person.
Her and Mrs Hurst go hand-in-hand, both turning away from Elizabeth and Jane when Mr Darcy does not choose Miss Bingley.
Mr Wickham
Sly, superficial, untrustworthy,
Favoured by Mr Darcy's father during their childhood, leading to Mr Darcy's great dislike of him.
Mr Wickham lies to Elizabeth about Mr Darcy, and when the truth is revealed by Darcy, Mr Wickham is shown as the liar he truly is.
He is also quite a static character and marries Lydia only because Darcy provides a financial incentive.
