GAP Strategic Plan

Specific Resources Creation GIN project-specific school-specific needs include: clear explanations of the GIN mission, vision, and ethos, a complete GIN glossary of terms, a GIN learning library of successful models of change (GIN projects and conferences), as well as a bank of GIN guides, resources and tools to support the empowerment of our worldwide community as global citizens.

Program Logistics Finally, the main logistical need is a CC Program team of effective and dedicated interns. The larger GIN community needs a team that has experience in a variety of GIN programming as well as an interest and passion for learning in the following fields: Education and Curriculum, Visuals and Design, Logistics, and Public Relations, to ensure that we are continuously evolving and employing best practices as a global community of changemakers.

Program Needs and Needs Categories

Greater Community Engagement
GIN needs to continuously engage and increase ongoing dialogue amongst our global community. The GIN Community needs a collaborative platform where we can share resources and obtain feedback from our peers, educators, mentors and experts.

Program Challenges and Challenge Categories

Decentralized Global Community In the first category, GIN does not have an established system of communication and/or centralized platform that enables organizers to exchange ideas with GIN’s extremely large and diverse global community. GIN Conferences and events happen very often in all regions of the planet, yet there needs to be a platform that enhances the exchange of idea throughout the year. Thus our challenge is to make materials accessible and empower ongoing engagement, dialogue and problem solving amongst students, GIN staff and administration around the globe.

Lack of Resource Accessibility GIN sees its resources and tools as a continuous prototyping process that includes ongoing community feedback and learning, thus our challenge lies in effectively notifying our global community of the latest iteration of our resources and tools and maintaining constant and continuous feedback loops that empower and establish multiperspectivity.

Multifaceted Organization & Logistics Finally, logistical issues also arise due to the nature of GIN as an organization, given that it works with students in different countries, age ranges, and levels of engagement. Because of this and the range of knowledge GIN addresses, our challenge is to provide a change making framework that may be adapted to local-global contexts while working to ensure that we are following best practices in education and learning. This necessitates the training and development of a diverse and large team of student leaders and supportive educators to meet all stakeholder needs and actualize best practices in everyday living and learning.

United Global Community
The GIN GAP Program aims to create a strong network of GIN Member Schools that are dedicated to engaging students as leaders of today while sharing their successes, challenges, resources and expertise with GIN project and conference organizers around the world. GIN Schools actively participate in GIN programming and support GIN student leaders in designing, testing, reiterating/problem-solving, measuring, documenting, and co-creating successful models of change (sustainable GIN Projects and Schools) while co-developing and publishing materials that reflect their learning, to benefit the entire GIN community and grow a sense of global unity.

Increased Access to Resources To improve distribution and access to materials, the GAP Program is committed to building a resource database available to all GIN Member Schools. The GAP Program will collaborate with the GIN Social Media Program to help notify stakeholders of updated resources as an effort to facilitate the distribution process. Additionally, in collaboration with the GIN Global Mentors Program, the GAP Program will train students and provide resources for GIN Mentors in order to disseminate best practices and resources while lending support and guidance on a broader scale.

Strong Team of Implementers and Supporters
Logistical challenges will be overcome by creating an effective and dedicated team of interns who are supported by our global network of student leaders and educators. To ensure that we are continuously evolving and employing best practices as a global community of changemakers, our team will have had experience in a variety of GIN programming as well as an interest and passion in the following fields: Education and Curriculum, Visual and Design, Logistics, and Public Relations.. We will provide a change making framework that may be adapted to local-global contexts while working to meet all stakeholder needs and actualize best practices in everyday living and learning. Our team will create school-specific and project-specific GIN guides, resources and tools fit for all levels of engagement and community identified needs, including but not limited to: understanding how to apply the GIN mission, vision, and ethos, a complete glossary of GIN terms, a learning library of successful models of change (GIN projects and GIN schools), as well as a bank of GIN guides, resources and tools to support the empowerment of our worldwide community as changemaking global citizens.

Program Solutions and Solution Categories

Active participation from the members The GIN GAP Program hopes that all members in the community have a strong commitment to the program. As all of the members know what the goal of the program is and they are interested in helping the community, the members must have time disposition to successfully accomplish the tasks and projects that are expected of them. The members of this team must be willing to meet with others and help their teams whenever is necessary so the project is successful.

Increased Interest in the Program To make sure that the programs works properly, members who are in it must ensure that they have time commitment and interest in the activities. As most activities involve the community and getting to know them better, members of the team must be willing to talk to others in order to be empathetic. Members that show that they enjoy the program will demonstrate that they have time commitment and disposition to do what is required.

Passion for the local community As said previously, an important goal in the program is to involve the community as they will be benefited by the projects. The GAP Program will make sure that the leaders of the projects are empathetic, meaning that they will ask the community what they want and need in order to create better solutions that are accepted by the communities. Furthermore, the members will respect culture as they understand that it is a defining aspect of all communities.

Evenly distributed roles In the GAP Program, while working on a project, all members must distribute the amount go work that must be completely evenly so that it is fair for everyone. No single person should have to do all of the work alone.

Explore their passion In the GAP Program, not all students have to be working on the same project or using the same resource to complete a project. Students are provided different tools that they can explore and use based on their preferences. Also, students have the freedom to choose their project topics based on their interest, as an important goal of the GAP Program is for its students to know themselves better.

Adding insights with solutions GAP members are leaders who are open minded and respectful towards others. Because of this, when proposing solutions in the teams, members can give examples of projects that they have done. Also, while thinking about solutions, GAP members are expected to be innovative and creative. Furthermore, it is important to brainstorm multiple solutions and test them to see what works best.

Community identifies needs, challenges and solutions

Punctuality GAP Members are given responsibilities by their team members and the their leaders. It is extremely important for these tasks to be done on time, as other people rely on the work that is asked of each member.

Role clarification Since the very beginning, GAP members are reminded of what their roles are within the team and what is expected of them. When a role or task that must be performed is not clear or specific, the GAP member can ask a mentor or a leader and their question will be solved.

Culture affects the results As mentioned on the program challenges and solutions, empathy is a really important step. As there are many communities that have had rules for many years, it is not easy to change their mentality towards certain aspects. This can make some solutions work more effectively in some communities than in others, as some people are more receptive.

Open minds towards learning Members of the GAP Program must be open minded towards the solutions proposed and their team members' ideas. As people in the program come from different places around the world, different ambassadors have different beliefs and solutions towards certain ideas. Members must be respectful towards those ideas and also be respectful while giving them.

Understanding the difficulties As GAP members, it is important to understand that there are curveballs thrown constantly for most of the projects made. It is important for the members to be resilient and perseverant towards these difficulties as they also teach important lessons for future projects. If there is a difficulty that is too complex, members can ask each other, teachers, or leaders for help as it is ideal to collaborate and it is not expected for everyone to know how to solve every problem.

Willingness to propose solutions Members of this program must be constantly participating on it as every person's idea is important and could potentially be implemented. While proposing these solutions, other members must give respectful and organized feedback, so that the ideas proposed can be further improved and developed.

Project commitment Members of the GAP Team must be able to do what is expected of them. Time commitment is extremely important for all of the members in the team as each person is given a task that they must complete and other people rely on them. Interest must also be shown in order to prove that there is commitment to the project.

Team agreement In the GAP Program, people in the teams can respectfully disagree on certain ideas and topics, as not everyone thinks alike. However, a consensus must be reached by the entire team so that the idea/solution that is being proposed is accepted by everybody.

Advice and Organization Creators of the program that should advice people in the team when necessary and have a plan on the organization of projects. The funders should be available and willing to answer questions from the members if they have any. Also, the activities, documents, and resources should be created in advance so that members can use them.
