Aerobic Capacity Tests
Direct Gas Analysis
Subject performs continuous exercise at progressive intensities to exhaustion. Expired air is captured by a mask with a tube connected to a flow meter and gas analyser. The relative concentrations of oxygen and carbon dioxide in expired air to inspired air on measured results can be graphed against intensity using a simple calculation VO2 Max can be determined.
Advantages
-
Accurate, valid and reliable measure
-
-
Cooper 12-minute run
Subject performs continuous running to achieve maximum distance of within 12 minutes. Usually performed on a 400-meter running track with cones place to intervals. Time left her lap is called to the perform a full stop at the end of 12 minutes, and total distance is recorded. This is maximal intensity test which uses a simple calculation to predict VO2 max.
