Other Health Impairment (OHI) is defined as: having limited strength, vitality, or alertness, including a heightened alertness to environmental stimuli, that results in limited alertness with respect to the educational environment “due to an acute or chronic health problem, including but not limited to:
ADD/ADHD, diabetes, epilepsy, heart conditions, hemophilia, lead poisoning, leukemia, sickle cell anemia, nephritis, rheumatic fever, and Tourette syndrome.
With the OHI category health problems are so vastly different that assistive technology and accommodations are very different for each health problem. Examples for ADD/ADHD, diabetes, and epilepsy will be provided.
