Political Motivation
That is not only a great economic advantage but also a striking proof of the solid power and cultural fiber of England. It would be wise for us Germans to learn about colonial skills from out Anglo-Saxon cousins and to begin a friendly completion with them.
This Explains how Germany wants to prove that they are a forced to be reckoned with and to achieve this they want to expand their land into other places like Africa. This would be a great Economic advantage for them as well.
Many countries want to stay relevant and powerful in the world so with everyone colonizing the countries who don't would fall off and wouldn't have as much influence within the world affairs.
Economic motivation
What is lacking for our great industry, drawn irrevocably on to the path of exportation by the (free trade) treaties of 1860, what it lacks more and more is export markets. -Jules ferry
This is showing that Jules Ferry main goal is to expand and get more ports to export more goods that their country has produced.
So by expanding there control over the world they can get it so they can export more goods to country much faster.
Cultural motivation
My object in going into the country south of the desert was to instruct the natives in a knowledge of Christianity. -David Livingstone
David Livingstone was planning to go into other countries and spread Christianity farther throughout the world.
By colonizing other countries it allows them to spread their religion so a big reason behind colonization was to convert them to Christianity.
Colonized
Places like India, Africa, and North/South America were being colonized by powerful Empires and turned into colonies to supply the Empire.
This means that during the scramble of Africa places were trying to expand the area that they ruled over so many European powers went to Africa since they didn't have an industrialized army.
Almost all of the main powers were turning most of the land either claimed by a weak country or by none and making it a colony for trading and raw materials
Colonizers
Much of the Colonizing was done during the Scramble for Africa done by many European countries Mainly Britain but some like Germany tried too
So This means that during this time it was all about colonizing Places and Great Britain was always on top.
When these countries colonized other areas it caused them to gain a lot of wealth because they were able to set up trading posts and they could get the raw materials around the area
Technology Changes
Italy improved there gun technology by using animal grease. They would kill the animals such as, cows and pigs, and they would use the grease to make their guns better.
This is only one examples of how many European countries were trying to find new ways to improve the technology they have already invented. Sometimes this would come with some draw backs but would be better in the long run
There are many technological advancements that countries have made this one in particular was great but also was the "last straw" causing the Sepoy Rebellion in India.
