McDonalds uses happy meals which include toys with kids meals to get children to buy the meals for the toys.
Happy Meals are made in factorys with bad conditions and the workers work long hours with low pay.
Companies try to reel kids in when there young so hopefully they will buy there products for there whole life.
Companies will interview kids on their products to see what kids like so that they can modify their products to appeal to kids.
Walt Disney and Ray Kroc were similar in many ways. Walt Disney created a business strategy called synergy, its when you link a bunch of products together and advertise them so that the consumer doesn't think its an ad.
Disneyland was an example of synergy.
As McDonalds and other fast food companies grew they needed more workers and young teens were the perfect workers for the job. They could replace them and pay them low wages do to there inexperience.

Employees work long hard hours at McDonalds and get paid minimum wage for it.
One employee said she once worked at McDonalds for 19 hours in one day.

Teens at McDonald's are having cramped schedules because they are trying to juggle there long jobs at McDonalds, homework, and school.
Workers are being paid very low for the amount of sacrifice they give for McDonalds

Most of McDonalds food is frozen and when it gets to the store from the factories the employees just cook it in hot water and vuala you have a meal.

McDonald's started as a drive in, which the two brothers created because highways had just been made through California

Other companies adopted the speedee service system including Gap.
More and more cites were being built up with fast food restaurants popping up everywhere.
As fast food companies expand overseas they are not always received in the best way. Also schools are becoming heather because some are planting fresh gardens for food.

After the mad cow disease outbreak McDonalds lighted there public opinion by telling thier meat packers to not feed cows cows.
McDonalds also made their chicken suppliers make the chickens go through less suffering when being killed.

Alice Waters, a famous chef, started a program in some schools to try and encourage healthy eating. This program made it so schools grew food and had the kids prepare it and eat it.
It was started because she visited her local elementary school and saw what awful food they were eating.
People overseas saw fast food companies as a representation of america so when the US did something that other countries dident like fast food would take the blame.
People found out that some beef was being infected with mad cow disease which is caused by when the cows eat left over cow.

Smell is 90% of what you taste and sop these flavor additive companies teamed up with perfume companies to make things taste better.
People who grow up liking certain foods usually like the same foods for a long time. these are your comfort foods and McDonalds wants your comfort foods to be the same as the food they sell.
These fries factory's make potatoes (which are mostly GMO) into any type of fries and then freeze them and send them to McDonald's stores across the country.
