More than 50,000 McDonald's world wide in 2018
Fast food companies don't want you to know whats in your food
Advertisers make fast food look healthy and good when thats not actually what happens

The US has a big problem with obesity because of fast food. Fast food is cheap and convenient making it so that consumers buy it a lot which is not great for your health.

Gastric bypass surgery can be a huge risk because the operation can go bad sometimes and it changes your eating habits for forever
A kid named Sam who is debating over having gastric bypass surgery or not decides that he will undertake the operation.
The american disease
Since fast food started about 50 years ago we are beginning to see the effects of it in the first generation that was raised on happy meals.
Eating to much unhealthy foods can give you type two diabetes which is a disease that effects your blood
Complicated
Sam does the surgery and has some complications and almost dies but comes out alive and safe
Sam was happy with his decision but his life will never be the same because he has to eat small meals each day.
Monster thickburgers
Gastric bypass surgery is a surgery that reduces the size of you stomach to help you eat less.
Gastric bypass surgery was popular in the US because 2/3 of adults are obese. Fast food has made becoming obese a lot easier and more convenient
Stop the Pop
Soda is a big problem in schools across the country and in places were fresh water is hard to obtain. Because of this health problems are beginning to arise.

Toothless
Native Americans are being targeted by soda companies because of there lack of clean drinking water and because of there new emerging diet of fast food.
Many Eskimos dont have good dental care and drink a lot of coke so most dont have teeth anymore.
Dont blame us
Soda companies dont think that their the reason so many Eskimos are losing there teeth and having health issues.
Soda companies blame it on lack of dental hygiene which is unfair because in Eskimo towns it is hard to get any dental care.
The coke dude
Fasst food companies and soda companies advertise to schools by rewarding doing well in school with a free meal or drink.
Coca Cola and other fast food companies make deals with schools to be able to put there products in the schools. In return the school gets a share of the money earned.
The bitter cry of children.
Kids in food deserts (neighborhoods were fresh food is not available) eat a lot of fast food so skids around the country are becoming more and more obese.
The National School Lunch Act is a program in the US that provides food for kids to eat but sometimes the kids don't like that food so they eat fast food instead
Mcschools
McDonalds and other fast food compaineis are begining to take over school cafatirias because of there stores and vending machines that are in the schools
Kids sometimes dont like the lunches that are sold at the cafeterias so they resort to fast food.
The power of one
One girl named Kristina Clarck got rid of all soda machines at her school because she relized what they were doing to kids health.
She hopes that other schools will follow her example and get rid of all pop in schools
The Youngster Business
The fast food industry relies greatly on kids. They rely on the fact that they beg their parents for food and when they go to eat they usually bring 1 or more extra people.

The hamburger-eatingest clown
Ray Kroc tried to make a deal with Disney but was turned down.
A new mascot named Ronald McDonald emerged in tv commercials for McDonalds appealed to kids and was McDonald's form of synergy
Threatening nag
Kids nag there parents for toys and food and McDonalds used this in there advertising so that kids would bring themselves and there parents into the restaurants.
There are 7 types of nags that kids use on there parents: Pleading nag, persistent nag, forceful nag, demonstrative nag, sugar-coated nag, threatening nag, and pity nags.
Toys, toys, toys
McDonalds uses happy meals which include toys with kids meals to get children to buy the meals for the toys.
Happy Meals are made in factorys with bad conditions and the workers work long hours with low pay.
Brand stickiness
Companies try to reel kids in when there young so hopefully they will buy there products for there whole life.
Companies will interview kids on their products to see what kids like so that they can modify their products to appeal to kids.
Synergy
Walt Disney and Ray Kroc were similar in many ways. Walt Disney created a business strategy called synergy, its when you link a bunch of products together and advertise them so that the consumer doesn't think its an ad.
Disneyland was an example of synergy.
McJobs
As McDonalds and other fast food companies grew they needed more workers and young teens were the perfect workers for the job. They could replace them and pay them low wages do to there inexperience.

Long hours, low pay
Employees work long hard hours at McDonalds and get paid minimum wage for it.
One employee said she once worked at McDonalds for 19 hours in one day.
Too much work
Teens at McDonald's are having cramped schedules because they are trying to juggle there long jobs at McDonalds, homework, and school.
Workers are being paid very low for the amount of sacrifice they give for McDonalds
Just add hot water
Most of McDonalds food is frozen and when it gets to the store from the factories the employees just cook it in hot water and vuala you have a meal.
`McDonalds dose'nt employ many skilled workers because they run a speedee service system which dose'nt require skilled workers.
Mcunions
McDonald's has great power over their workers and uses it unfairly. the low-class workers are dispensable so they hardly ever get a pay raise from minimum wage.
One McDonald's worker at a store tried to make a union for it workers and when McDonald's tried to shut them down he sued them. A fellow worker snitched on there plan and so McDonald's over set the petition worker count for them to go to court.
The Pioneers
The people who made fast food weren't already rich, they started out as high school dropouts and made companies that turned into billion dollar companies

Speedee service
McDonald's started as a drive in, which the two brothers created because highways had just been made through California
The brothers sold the company to a guy named Ray Croc who made an assembly line for food.
Orphans, Dropouts and self-made men
People all over the country came to visit McDonald's and copied there speedee service system in there own restaurants.
Fast food restaurants started poping up all around the country with names like KFC, Subway, Burger King, White Castle, Car'ls Jr. and Wendy's
Killer burgers
Burgers were originally per sieved as contaminated and unhealthy foods
The burger was made from meat scraps originally
Dog eat dog
Ray Kroc came up with an idea on how to spread McDonald's worldwide. He used franchising deals to do so. He would tell a business man how to run the restaurant and he would split the money earned from the restaurant.
Kroc bought out the McDonald's brothers from the company and ran there only remaining store out of business.
More and more of the same
Other companies adopted the speedee service system including Gap.
More and more cites were being built up with fast food restaurants popping up everywhere.
Your Way
As fast food companies expand overseas they are not always received in the best way. Also schools are becoming heather because some are planting fresh gardens for food.

The new ronald
After the mad cow disease outbreak McDonalds lighted there public opinion by telling thier meat packers to not feed cows cows.
McDonalds also made their chicken suppliers make the chickens go through less suffering when being killed.
Kids with knives
Alice Waters, a famous chef, started a program in some schools to try and encourage healthy eating. This program made it so schools grew food and had the kids prepare it and eat it.
It was started because she visited her local elementary school and saw what awful food they were eating.
Storming KFC
People overseas saw fast food companies as a representation of america so when the US did something that other countries dident like fast food would take the blame.
People found out that some beef was being infected with mad cow disease which is caused by when the cows eat left over cow.
Changing the world
Talks about what changes should be instituted in the fast food industry
In and Out is and example of a fast food company that dosent use beef trusts or big meat packing companies, they use local produce and meat.
Meat
Consumers dont really know what going into there meat. Workers in the meat industry are treated horribly, the animals are treated horribly and some food can be contaminated
https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj9yfra7bveAhVlneAKHS8jAfAQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=http%3A%2F%2Frise4you.com%2F2017%2F03%2Fshocking-again-human-meat-found-in-mcdonalds-meat-factory%2F&psig=AOvVaw0OMhrvnd2Tl3mUNdMsPsrK&ust=1541459326343670
Mr. McDonald's breasts
McDonalds chicken comes from chickens that arent free range and are packed by the thousands in small areas walking around in there own poop or pee.
These chickens are fed nasty grain and are fed so much that some die from eating too quickly
beef trust
If you spoke out against them you would be shunned and shut out of business
The beef trust was a group of powerful meat packing companies that controlled the meat packing market
Rotten eggs and burning poop
These lagoons can be poisinus setting off awful smells and gasses and can even catch fire
At slaughter houses all of the poop and pee goes into gigantic pits called lagoons
Mccannibles
The chickens are fed scraps of meat and sometimes even other chicken remains
The chickens are fed sop much that if a human was fed that much from the time they were born they would be 286 pound by the time they were 6.
Shocking
Workers at Pilgrims Pride slaughter house stomped on chickens and threw them at walls
The chickens in slaughter houses are treated awfuly.
Don't complain
Often injured workers will be demoted. The price that companies have to pay an injured worker is very low because of the power that the meat packing industry holds
When a worker is injured they don't stand up against these companies because they hold so much power.
The jungle
The book "The Jungle" by Uptoin Sinclair talks about how badly workers are treated and about how unclean the meat is at the slaughter houses.
Workers at cow slaughter houses are treated awfully and the animals just the same.
Cook it well
Meat packing industrys are very unclean with their meat and some of it is infected with e coli
Since burgers can be made out of parts from thousands of different cows they can have all sorts of germs and bacteria in them,
Run
Some pigs and cows are able to get away from slaughter houses and can even be rescued by shelters.
Emily the cow was a cow who got away from a slaughter house and then found her way through the woods to a shelter and lived a happy life.
The Secret of the Fries
McDonald's fries appeal to many people because of some secret ingredients. These ingredients are chemicals and artificial flavoring and sometimes even beef.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjci6G17bveAhXxc98KHSZZB8EQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.idahostatesman.com%2Fnews%2Fbusiness%2Farticle117450058.html&psig=AOvVaw3HNhNrI7rIrS4dWiezuFic&ust=1541459261405097
Smells
McDonalds fries are made in the same factory as other fast food companies fries
They taste different because they use different flavor additives
Tastey
Smell is 90% of what you taste and sop these flavor additive companies teamed up with perfume companies to make things taste better.
People who grow up liking certain foods usually like the same foods for a long time. these are your comfort foods and McDonalds wants your comfort foods to be the same as the food they sell.
Factory fries
These fries factory's make potatoes (which are mostly GMO) into any type of fries and then freeze them and send them to McDonald's stores across the country.
McDonalds fries arent from fresh cut homegrown potatos they are made in factorys
Those strawberry shakes
When it says natural flavoring that means that there are 100s of chemical flavors mixed in
Different chemicals mixed together make different flavors
Kid testers
Laboratory have kids from all ages come in and taste different foods to see if they like it.
Kids foods are usually sweater because of the sweat chemicals they put in them.
The bugs in your candy
In these chemicals there are pigments which come from bugs.
Some of these chemicals can be poisonous in high doses
Poop on ronald
McDonalds used to cook there fries in beef fat and horse fat.
Jain's and vegetarians dident like this because they claimed to be vegetarian fries and yet they were cooked in beef.
Afterword
Some changes have been made to the fast food industry since Chew on This was first made
direct access to Coca Cola and Pepsi products has been removed from schools across the country.
The fast food industry dident like what Chew on This had to say and they responded not nicely.
