Tecumseh and the Prophet
Twelfth Congress: met in 1811; the "war hawks" wanted to go to war with the British and wanted to eliminate the Indian threats to pioneers.
Tecumseh & Tenskwatawa: Shawnee brothers who unified many Indian tribes in a last-ditch battle with the settlers; allied with the British.
William Henry Harrison: governor of the Indiana territory; defeated the Shawnee at the Battle of Tippecanoe.

"Louisiana Purchase"
By this purchase, America was able to avoid a possible conflict with France and by complicating relationships by having alliances with England.
America was able to have access to western half of the richest river valley in the world and foundations of future major power.

1) Napoleon had failed in his efforts to reconquer the sugar-rich island of Santo Domingo (Haiti); Louisiana was to serve as a source of foodstuffs
2) Napoleon was about to end the lull in his deadly conflict with Britain. (because Britain controlled the sea he was afraid that they would ask for the Louisiana, so he decided to sell the land to America. He thought it would be better rather than driving America into Britain.
