This would provide students a chance to stay away from their current situation, and realize that they are doing something good.
Model appropriate language

This would help students to learn alternative words to those that may be inappropriate, hurtful, mean, undesirable, etc. It would also help with building a growth mindset.

This would keep students engaged, provide encouragement, and help them to push through difficulty, barriers, etc.
Clear, consistent, and predictable consequences

For students who think of themselves as failures, when being punished, chances are they are going to think it's because they are failures. However, with clear, consistent, and predictable consequences, every student is treated fairly. Hence it is less likely for them to think too negatively.
