Enzymes
Enzymes are biological catalysts, they are made by living cells and can be sued over and over again. They regulate the actions which take place in many biological processes
Enzymes work by forming an enzyme-substrate complex. When enzyme and substrate molecules meet they react together reversibly at the active site to form an enzyme substrate complex. The complex breaks up into an enzyme and products . The products are released form the active site and the enzyme can be sued again
-
The lock and key theory stated that the substrate fitted perfectly into the active site, rather like a lock and key
Extra on enzymes
Basically every chemical reaction that takes place in an organism is/ has been catalyzed by an enzyme.
These could be the chemical reactions within a cell ( intracellular) like respiration or photosynthesis or those that occur in an organ system ( extracellular ) also could be known as digestion
In the digestive system , enzymes are found in our stomach and smaller intestine . We need them to break down food into smaller molecules
