Book 18- Two Beggars
Irus a beggar comes to Odysseus's house and tries to make Odysseus leave but Odysseus will not go so they fight and Odysseus wins.
For the fight Athena increases Odysseus's strength.
Athena gives Penelope the idea for the suitors to see her and so Odysseus and Telemachus would respect her.
Athena makes Penelope prettier and she goes downstairs.
Penelope tells Telemachus to not let strangers be treated badly.
Odysseus tells the slave girls to go comfort Penelope, but Melantho who is sleeping with Eurymachus insults him.
Athena makes the suitors ruder to Odysseus and he defends himself then Eurymachus throws a stool at him, but Odysseus ducks behind Amphinomus and the stool hits a slave who drops a wine jug.
Telemachus tells the suitors to go home.
Penelope tells the suitors she will marry again, but she wants them to court her properly so every one of them gets her gifts.
Odysseus warns Amphinomus to leave but he does not leave.
Antinous says if Irus loses he will be sent to King Echetus and be tortured there.

Book 19-The Queen and the beggar
Odysseus tells Telemachus to put the weapons away which he does.
Odysseus and Athena plot to destroy the suitors.
Penelope comes downstairs, and Melantho scolds Odysseus again, and Penelope scolds Melantho for scolding Odysseus.
Penelope asks Odysseus who he is but he is reluctant to tell her. He does tell her and he also says he had Odysseus as a guest while he was on his journey.
Penelope asks what Odysseus and his crew looked like as a test. And Odysseus describes an outfit Penelope gave Odysseus.
Penelope treats Odysseus as a guest, and she gets an old slave Eurycleia to wash him.
While Eurycleia is washing him she notices a scar Odysseus has on his foot from a boar.
The old slave realizes it is him but he threatens her if she reveals it.

Book 20-The Last Banquet
Odysseus cannot sleep so he lays there and he hears the girls who go off to sleep with the suitors.
Athena comes to Odysseus and tells him to go to sleep.
Zeus thunders and sends an omen through a wheat grinder that that is the last day the suitors will dine at Odysseus's.
Melanthius comes to Odysseus's house with goats and is rude to Odysseus.
Another herdsman named Philoetius asks about Odysseus.
An eagle holding a dove flies over and Amphinomus says the murder will fail.
A suitor throws an ox-foot at Odysseus.
Telemachus tells the suitors to stop acting out and he also tells his mother to pick a suitor.
